Caught on Campus: Indecisive student hates most animals
Caught: Education Building
Utah Statesman: What made you come to USU?
Michelle Nielsen: Do I have to know that? My older sister Kelly was a big reason of why I came to USU. I was at the U [University of Utah], but it was really big. My sister went here, so I decided to switch.
US: What is one of your favorite things about the school?
Nielsen: The fact that it’s smaller than the U. Having smaller classes is better.
US: What do you do for fun?
Nielsen: I like to snowboard. The snow in Utah is really good for that.
US: What don’t you like about USU?
Nielsen: I don’t like how small Logan is. But that’s sort of one of the reasons I came here for school because I actually come to class. I think a lot of the people here in Logan are closed-minded. People here tend to have stereotypes without any basis.
US: Describe yourself in three words.
Nielsen: Um … I don’t know … indecisive.
US: What did you what to be when you were a kid?
Nielsen: I always wanted to be a nurse. That’s really weird. I took a bunch of medical classes and realized I don’t want to work at a hospital. Plus, I really don’t want sick people coughing on me all day.
US: What was your favorite childhood toy?
Nielsen: I really loved My Little Pony. How about that?
US: If you could have any animal, what would it be?
Nielsen: I’m not a big animal person in general. My boyfriend’s daughter likes cats and I hate them. A dog is like having a kid. A fish – you can’t even touch it. A cat is completely stupid. And they get fur all over. I used to have a cat that attacked me every day.
US: In 10 years, where do you see yourself?
Nielsen: I should be graduated in a year and hopefully be finished with grad school. Maybe be living in Boston.
US: What would you do with an unlimited supply of monkeys?
Nielsen: Well, my brother wants a monkey because they throw … well, you know. I don’t know. I’d probably just hide.
US: What is in your CD player right now?
Nielsen: Fiona Apple.
US: What was the last concert you went to?
Nielsen: I really haven’t been to one in a while. The Pharcyde at Harry O’s. Or maybe Social Distortion.
US: If you could have one super hero power, what would it be?
Nielsen: I don’t know, I kind of like the stretching thing. Like the mom on “The Incredibles.”
US: In your opinion is there a tolerable comic book movie?
Nielsen: “Batman Begins” was a good movie, but I really wouldn’t consider it a comic book movie. Typically, those are like Spiderman and I’m not a big fan. My boyfriend’s daughter Eliza really likes them, though.
