Utah Statesman: Why did you decide to come to USU?

KayLyn Alder: It has a good elementary education program and lots of my family came here.

US: What is the biggest risk you have ever taken?

Alder: Probably coming up here without knowing any of my roommates.

US : What is your favorite color?

Alder: I don’t know, I love all colors. Maybe pink or yellow.

US: Do you think guitars turn guys into babe magnets?

Alder: Oh yeah, I like guys who play the guitar. No one currently though.

US: Do you have any pet peeves?

Alder: I don’t like shopping and I really don’t like guys that like shopping.

US: What sports do you enjoy playing?

Alder: Volleyball.

US: What is the craziest thing you’ve ever seen on campus?

Alder: My first day here I saw this guy with a mustache smoking a pipe. I’d never seen anyone smoke a pipe before.

US: Who would you say is your hero?

Alder: My older sister Amy. When I was younger I wanted to be just like her. Whenever I have to make a decision I always ask myself, “What would Amy do?”

US: If you could be famous for one thing what would you like to be famous for?

Alder: I don’t want to be famous. I guess I just want to live out life quietly and be known by the people I’ve associated with.

US: How long does it usually take you to get ready in the morning?

Alder: Depends on the morning. Probably like 45 minutes – you know, shower, eat, maybe do my hair.

US: Have you ever had any serious injuries?

Alder: I ran into a tree when I was little and cut my chin open. My brother put me on this zip-line and since I wasn’t tall enough to touch the ground I ran into the tree at the other end.

US: What is your greatest fear?

Alder: I worry about how my kids are going to turn out and what sort of things they’ll do with their lives.

US: What is the typical state of your bedroom?

Alder: It’s kind of in-between. It’s not all that organized. I have a laundry basket piled with clothes and some books lying around. I don’t have a roommate right now so I throw all my stuff on the other side of the room so it looks like whoever lives there is messy instead of me.

US: What is your opinion on shoes?

Alder: I’d much rather not wear shoes. I’m one of those people who would wear flip-flops with a formal dress.

US: What is one thing you cherished as a child?

Alder: I had my blue blanket. It was so thin my mom said we could never wash it again because it would fall apart.

US: What do you think of the saying “girls don’t like boys, girls like cars and money”?

Alder: I hate that. I hate that song because I don’t like cars or money. I guess I’m just not into stuff.

US: What is your opinion on the True Aggie tradition?

Alder: I’m not one and I don’t plan on becoming one. I think the whole thing is kind of funny. I don’t know if I’d like to get in a line and go kiss, but I guess if other people want to do it I don’t have a problem with it. -amcconkie@cc.usu.edu
