Caught on Campus: Student dreams of someday being president of the United States
Nick Ballsophomore, business administration/economics
Caught: Eccles Science Learning Center
Utah Statesman: Where are you from?
Nick Ball: I’m from the valley. I lived here in Logan for about 11 years, then we moved to Hyrum where I went to high school. So I just say I’m from the valley.
US: Why did you decide to come to USU?
Ball: It’s close to home and it’s cheap. Cheaper than other places. They have what I want.
US: What is your favorite part about life on campus?
Ball: I like the access to so many events. I like it when the basketball teams wins.
US: What do you like least about campus?
Ball: The stairs on Old Main Hill. There is a part of them that is ruined. It looks like someone did a crappy cement job. It really is bothersome, when so much money is put into the university and they can’t even fix one or two stairs. Makes me wonder.
US: Describe yourself in five words.
Ball: Optimistic, thirsty, energetic, hyper and colorful.
US: What are your hobbies?
Ball: Sports, learning, reading and more sports.
US: If you could go anywhere and do anything for one day what would you do?
Ball: One day, that is only 24 hours. If it was possible to fly on top of Mount Everest, I would like to fly on top of Mount Everest.
US: What would you when you got there?
Ball: I would just scream and say ‘I did it.’ I would put an American flag there. Hopefully, I could survive the way down.
US: If tomorrow was Christmas what would you ask Santa for?
Ball: And he’d give it to me? I would just want probably one billion dollars. Not too much, because that would allow me to play with it enough but also to invest it and to learn so many other things. It would set me up for the rest of my life.
US: What is the strangest thing you’ve eaten?
Ball: Chicken feet. They weren’t very good. They don’t have any meat on them so it’s like you’re just sucking it. They didn’t have hairs, so that was a good thing.
US: If you could have an exotic animal for a pet, what would it be?
Ball: I would like a white tiger because they’re really rare. I went and saw this magic show in Las Vegas and the magician had two white tigers. They’re just the cutest and most gorgeous animals.
US: Do you have any pet peeves?
Ball: When there are a bunch of seats like at church, and people are sitting on the ends and they refuse to move to the center. Even though you’re just one person, and they literally say I’m not going to move. When people aren’t efficient. That’s my example.
US: When you were a little kid what did you want to be when you grew up?
Ball: I wanted to play in the NFL or the NBA or be a business man. Although business man is very broad, I always just pictured myself in a suit and tie ready for work. Just looking sophisticated.
US: What would you say is the most unique thing about you?
Ball: I can enjoy just about anything. Whether it be food, people, experiences, anything that comes my way. Bring it on.
US: What would you do with an unlimited supply of monkeys?
Ball: An unlimited supply … so they are obviously reproducing. Well if I had that $1 billion, I would buy some great jungle land and I’d create my home in the jungle. I would have them around my home. I would have all different sizes and varieties of monkeys.
US: What would your jungle house look like?
Ball: It would be totally high-tech. It would have all the Internet connections, speakers, surround sound, a home theater. The exterior would obviously blend in with nature. I would hire a really awesome architect and artist that could match the jungle.
US: Would you allow the monkeys inside?
Ball: Well I’d have a separate room for them of course. So that I could join them. Sometimes you just want to be a monkey. I would treat them like humans, give them their own beds if they wanted.
US: If you were a superhero, what would your super power be?
Ball: All-knowing, to the extent that I could read people’s minds and understand anything. By having that I could know how to help other people better.
US: If you were president, what social changes would you want to make?
Ball: This is a great question because I actually want to be president. Socially, I think we live in a great country. I think I would attempt to break down racism. We should be more open-minded. We should be working together to benefit as a whole rather than degrading everything.
