Celebrate America Show offers a big band, dinner and dance

Students at Utah State have the opportunity to travel back in time to the big band era on Wednesday and help celebrate America.

The Celebrate America show has been around for six years. Before the Celebrate America show came to be, the Glen Miller Show was the big show in Logan that had dinner and dance. After the Glen Miller Show was canceled due to budget cuts, the community realized how much they loved this tradition of bringing the big band era and Broadway-style shows to Logan. That’s when the Celebrate America show was born.

Brenda Anthony, one of the shows coordinators, said that the show is a great chance for students to come out and meet new people.

“You don’t have to bring a date,” Anthony said. “You can just come single and mingle.”

The show is also a great chance for students to get to dance to big band style music.

“This is not a dance that you get offered every day. Students should take advantage of the special evening,” Anthony said.

The show for the general public cost $39.95. This Wednesday, Utah State students only have to pay $5 to see the show.

The show is expected to be bigger and better then the years before. The TSC Ballroom will be decorated with an elaborate set and outside the ballroom there will be war veterans with different displays for the students to enjoy.

“The great thing about our presentation is that even with all the negative things that keep going on, you leave the show thinking great things about our country,” Anthony said.

The show is to help people “appreciate America,” Anthony said. “And to give a tribute to the troops that have served and are still serving.”

The Top of Utah entertainment review on the Celebrate America show said “Our goal is to present a package of extraordinary entertainment which will increase patriotism, build a sense of gratitude for America and express appreciation for veterans, firefighters and law enforcement officers.”

The show is expected to be full to capacity this year.

“Get your tickets early,” Anthony said. “You may not get in if you wait until the last minute to get tickets, but don’t give up if you don’t get tickets right away.”

You must be a Utah State student to get the $5 price and you will need to have your student ID as well.
