Charging into celebration: Big Blue’s Birthday Bash

On March 6, the second floor of the TSC was filled with cupcakes, cowboy hats and celebration as students partied with Big Blue for his thirty-fifth birthday party. Put on by the USUSA Blue Crew, Big Blue’s Birthday Bash had a 360° photo booth, Aggie Ice Cream, a raffle giveaway and a Dirty 30 dance.

USUSA Student Events Executive Director, Avery Packer, said Big Blue’s birthday was all about getting together and celebrating the bull.

“Tonight’s all about having fun, getting together and celebrating Big Blue,” Packer said.

Attendees were excited to have a great time with their friends and their mascot.

Jackie Andrewsen said that the best part of the night was “definitely Aggie Ice Cream and Big Blue.”

Newly elected and incoming USUSA Student Events Executive Director Ashlynn Smith said she loved seeing how happy everyone was and how much Big Blue loved to interact with students.

Zach Bone, a member of Blue Crew, said he loves the mascot.

“Big Blue is obviously the greatest mascot that was,” Bone said. “We’re best friends.”

Bone said planning for the event was a blast and a chance to be creative.

“We’ve been doing planning for the last month or so,” Bone said. “There were lots of ideas to try out. It’s just a blast to plan these creative events for students.”

Students sang Happy Birthday and Big Blue gave a speech through Bone’s translation.

“Thank you for coming to my birthday party,” Big Blue said. “Utah State is the best college that ever was and has the best students.”

Big Blue said his top ten tips for being an Aggie were drinking more milk, eating more Aggie Ice Cream, always using cowbells, living, laughing, mooing, tipping waiters and not cows and making life what you milk of it.

“I’m still an Aggie at heart,” Big Blue said.

Smith said that Big Blue really knows how to hype up a crowd, and he is the face of Utah State. Bone said the same.

“Big Blue is really a symbol for Utah State,” Bone said. “He shows who we are as a community, our energy, and really our family that’s here at Utah State.”
