Child rape and sodomy charges filed against Alex Whipple

One day after the funeral for his niece, Alexander Whipple is facing more charges in connection with her death.

The Cache County Attorney’s Office filed two more felony charges against the 21-year old Wednesday, rape of a child and sodomy upon a child, both first-degree felonies. Whipple is already accused of murder, desecration of a body and child kidnapping as well as two counts of obstructing justice.

The death penalty option was struck down in exchange for Whipple providing information as to where Elizabeth Shelley’s body was located, and her body was recovered just blocks from her home on May 29.

Whipple first appeared in court Monday, and was given no option for bail.

Shelley’s family has received support from the Logan community as the city is decorated with rainbow ribbons in her memory. Elizabeth was laid to rest in the Logan cemetery Tuesday.
