Club invitational will showcase U.S. Olympian
Those at the Saturday 10 a.m. session of the Bear Country Gymnastics Invitational at Utah State University will receive a rare treat as 2000 Olympics gymnast Tasha Schwikert will be competing.
The Invitational is being held Friday and Saturday in the Spectrum.
Schwikert will also be honored at the Utah State gymnastics match against Missouri Saturday evening.
Fans will be invited to stay for an autograph session following the match. Posters including pictures and biographical information will be provided.
“It’s not every day that we have an Olympic gymnast stop by out of the blue,” said Utah State gymnastics coach Ray Corn.
Schwikert, a high school sophomore from Las Vegas, began gymnastics in 1990 and has competed on the national team for four years, 1997-2001.
Recently, Schwikert competed in the Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, where she finished fourth in the team competition.
