Club volleyball drops two matches

The Utah State men’s club volleyball team played two matches Saturday at Utah Valley State College, losing 2-1 to both UVSC and the University of Utah.

The Aggies have time off until their next conference tournament, March 22 and 23 at Utah, and are playing in local matches to get court time, team captain Adam Longmore said.

Following a second place finish at their last conference tournament in Colorado on Feb. 23, Longmore said the team had high expectations playing at UVSC.

Instead, after winning their first game against UVSC, he said the team didn’t play well and was frustrated.

“We couldn’t get it together,” Longmore said. “The only real positive thing was we didn’t lose by that big of margins.”

He said, “If we could have made a few points, we would have won.”

Longmore said he didn’t feel the team was intimidated by their opponents, but they were unable to pull their game together and committed a lot of errors, especially in passing.

“No one was passing consistently well,” Longmore said. “Your opponent’s ability shouldn’t affect your ability to pass.”

Despite the losses, Longmore said hanging in the games while playing poorly showed the team they can compete.

“We can only get better from here,” he said.

The Aggies will return to action Saturday when they take on BYU-Idaho in Rexburg.
