Color copies available at lower price on campus
April 14-May 5.
Students can print a color copy for $.24 in six of the lab facilities on campus.
The SLS is having this promotion to learn “what the student needs,” says Gary Egbert, manager of SLS.
The cost for one printout is temporarily being reduced from $.36 to $.24. Egbert says SLS will learn from the promotion how to best serve University students.
The SLS is hoping that the $.12 savings will increase printouts above their average of 400-500 copies per week, Egbert said.
The services currently do not know the price of a single copy on their new Dell color machines because it varies with the amount of ink used, he said. Hopefully, after the promotion, he said a more accurate price average can be estimated.
The SLS responded this January to students’ long-time requests for color printers in the computer labs.
“They’ve been very beneficial,” said an SLS employee speaking of the new machines – located in the TSC, SciTech, Information Commons, Ag Science, Family Life and UR Graphics computer labs on campus.
The Copy Center in the Taggart Student Center will copy in color for students, but it costs $1 per copy.
The Copy Center’s color machines have a higher resolution, resulting in mostly ASUSU and graphic students using them.
However, the color copy machines in SLS’s labs offer benefits of convenience and low-cost to students when they printout, Egbert.
The SLS has used color inkjets in the past.
Problems with crinkled papers and dried up ink motivated them to purchase the Dell laser printers when the price became reasonable.
Their main goal is to “just to serve students,” Egbert said. The service is not looking to make a profit; but rather, to benefit the student the best way it can.
