COLUMN: ASK- Power to know is given to students

Wednesday, the Student Relations Committee is hosting three tables around campus to get to know you, the student body. Tables will be at the Taggart Student Center, the Business Building and near the Engineering Building and the Chase Fine Arts Center. Representatives from ASUSU Executive Council, the Ombudsman Committee and the Student Relations Committee will be on hand to answer questions, receive student feedback and just to talk.

Also, two surveys are being conducted this week, one on the Stadium Spectrum Bond and one on the effectiveness of ASUSU. The bond survey’s information, hosted by the Public Affairs Board, will be used to help the university decide what they want to do with the 25-year old bond. They want to know if students would like to see improvements at the Taggart Student Center, Fieldhouse or Athletics’ facilities.

I am using the survey on the effectiveness of ASUSU for my corporate communications class. All personal information will be kept confidential and used for research purposes only. It is my goal to use the information to see what areas ASUSU is effective in and what areas need improvement. The student relations committee has been initiated in years prior, but never really got off the ground. This year, we have already successfully completed two surveys – one on advising and the other on AggiEcology – and both are being used right now to make USU a more student and environmentally friendly university.

Our theme for the year is “ASK: The Power of Knowing.” It applies to both sides: In a nutshell, you ask us questions and we’ll ask you questions. Representatives from the programming board, senators, legislators, administrative council and the Ombudsman Committee make up the committee. We are still looking for interested students to join. Please contact Kjirsten McKinney, student relations chair, at KjMckinney@cc.usu.edu, if you would like more information.
