COLUMN: ASUSU welcomes 2004-05 student body
On behalf of Utah State University and the Associated Students of Utah State University (ASUSU) we welcome you.
There are several exciting activities that are taking place this week and we hope to see you there. Take advantage of the free food, ice cream, lovesac give aways, movies, bands, bingo, improv, bike racing and dancing.
Don’t forget to donate to the Blood Battle. The Blood battle is a competition all week against the University of Utah to see which school can donate the most blood. Last year we smoked the U of U and with your help we’ll do it again this year. You can donate all week on the second floor of the student center in the international lounge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lastly, Bill Nye the Science Guy will be coming on Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall. See you there.
Many exciting changes have taken place this summer. The Taggert Student Center has had a face lift with a new Freshman Advising center on the third floor. We are thrilled to have five new advisers, soon to be six. Many of you may have seen the new lounge area on the second floor of the student center where the cashiers office used to be located. The lounge will soon be filled with leather couches, loveseats, lovesacs and small circular tables. Unlike some of the other lounges this will be used exclusively as a space for students not events. We hope you will enjoy this new space and use it for a little rest and relaxation.
Even more exciting are the changes taking place in the Nelson Field House. Although the project is not yet finished it will be in a couple of weeks. More than half a million dollars has gone into adding an additional 30 percent to the top level and nearly 40 new pieces of top of line exercise equipment.
Academics come first at USU and that is why we are here. During this week I encourage you to reach out to students in your classes and create study groups that will help you in upcoming exams. Take time to set a study schedule, your first exams are often be the toughest ones of the semester. With all the fun and exciting things going on remember to take care of the necessities. This year will be whatever you make it out to be.
In closing, I encourage you to get involved in at least one of the 500 clubs or organizations on campus. Come to TSC, Room 326 and ask how to get started. We are here to help you. Please, if you have a question just ask. I look forward to serving you and serving with you.
See you soon,
Les Essig
