COLUMN: Homecoming Week offers an array of activities
Free food, kissing on the “A,” football, movies, dancing, and a Halo tournament … what more could you ask for all in one week? This is the week of Homecoming, Oct. 4-9. It is a week to celebrate Utah State University in the past, the present and the future of Aggie traditions. With activities starting Monday at noon with a free barbecue on the TSC Patio to an After Party on Saturday until 1 a.m., with fun and games throughout the week to keep you excited about the “Past, Present, Future Aggie,” this year’s Homecoming week promises to be a great success.
The week starts off with free food – and what college student doesn’t want free food? Monday night the party goes all night long, with street painting for all of the clubs and organizations decorating the streets with their logos and events- hot cocoa and doughnuts will be provided by the Organizations and Traditions committee. The fun continues on Tuesday with a service project at 10 a.m. that lasts until late in the afternoon and the famous Mr. USU pageant will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall. Get your seats early! Mr. USU promises to be one of the funniest and hottest events of the week.
Don’t plan on going to far, because Wednesday night “Spiderman 2” will be playing in the Kent Concert Hall at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Come in costume dressed like your favorite super hero. During the day you can have all the fun you want for only one dollar at the Alpha Chi Omega Dollar Days philanthropy, with all proceeds going to the USU Women’s Center. There will be food, a mechanical bull and … cheerleaders?! Yes, that’s right, during Dollar Days we will have the opportunity to be energized by our very own Cheer Squad and Big Blue. But the fun doesn’t stop there.
Thursday is Aggie Spirit Day. Wear blue and white to show your Aggie pride as you walk down the Hello Walk from the Business building to Old Main. Enjoy one of USU’s best tasting traditions: (no, not the kiss on the “A,” that’s not until Friday night) Aggie Ice Cream served in the Sunburst lounge by the ASUSU officers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm.
Friday come and get “Lunch for the Bunch” on the TSC Plaza at 11:30 a.m. right before the Alumni Golf Tournament begins at noon. Then that night, the traditional Homecoming Dance will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight. Guys and girls, grab a date. It’s $15 before or $20 at the door. After the dance we’ll see you on the “A.” Need I say more? Just remember that you need to get your tickets to the dance and the Wednesday night movie at the USU ticket office beforehand. Know any alumni? Invite them back for a classy evening of dancing and music, and to spend the weekend in scenic Logan!
But Friday night isn’t the only night for an after party. Saturday kicks off with the 5K run at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Parade on Main Street starting at 10 a.m. Of course, everybody will be in blue at the football game where USU will take on North Texas. Afterward, to put the icing on the cake we will have the After Party, which is free, in the TSC. Music, blow up toys, prizes and of course a Halo Tournament from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. (champion will win a copy of Halo 2). Don’t miss out on any of the fun, especially because most of it is free.
