COLUMN: Lawyer, elections readily available
A lawyer is not known for being easy on the wallet when it comes to legal advice. As dirt-poor college students, you try to find the easiest way to free food and entertainment. Why not search for free legal advice while you’re at it?
The search may appear to be quite difficult; who has ever heard of a free lawyer? Well, search no more. It is being offered to all the USU student body at no charge. You heard it folks – No charge! As this may have come as a shock to most of you, it has been readily available for quite some time. Students just don’t know they have access to an on-campus, competent lawyer.
If you have had landlord difficulties, automobile accidents, or any other situation where legal advice may appear to be the solution, we encourage you to take full advantage of the Student Legal Services. The lawyers are available Monday and Thursday evenings, and you may schedule an appointment or drop in during their hours. They would prefer to know what your case is in advance so they can research and get as much background information as they can. You can set an appointment in the Taggart Student Center, Room 326 or call 797-2912. The lawyers’ office is located in the TSC, Room 316 and their office hours are Mondays from 5 to 10 p.m., and Thursdays from 2 to 7 p.m.
While you’re in the TSC 326 setting up an appointment with the lawyer, pick up your Candidate Election Packet and “Be Herd!” Even if you’re just interested in running, read through it and talk with the current ASUSU officers. The filing deadline is Thursday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. With 21 elected positions, there’s something for everyone.
Haven’t been involved much this year? It’s OK. If you have dedication, aren’t afraid to think outside the box and are willing to try new things, then what have you got to lose? For more elections information, please contact Ashley Stolworthy, ASUSU public relations vice president, at asusupr@cc.usu.edu. And, if you’re not running, volunteer with the Elections Committee. Its next meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the TSC, Room 332A.
