It is an amazing time to be a student at Utah State University, especially

in the College of Agriculture. The semester is nearing the half way mark, but

it seems like we just began. Most of the university, by now, is aware of the

accident that occurred and all that has transpired over the last weeks.

As the senator representing the College of Agriculture, I would like to

extend our thanks to everyone who has participated and been involved in the

events surrounding the accident, which occurred on Sept. 26. It was

fantastic to see so many go beyond themselves and lend aid in any way they

could. The candlelight vigil, flowers, ribbons and posters were small tokens

of support but were appreciated and well received by the families of those

involved.

Numerous members of the community have been involved in supporting the two memorial funds that were established, and they continue to grow each day. The funds were established due to an overwhelming desire of individuals and

businesses to lend support. One of the funds has been dedicated to aid the

families, while the other is the beginning of a memorial scholarship. It is

realized that monetary support is not a complete solution, however, it is

helpful and appreciated by the recipients.

A memorial service will be held on Nov. 7, at 1:30 p.m., to offer an

opportunity for the campus and community to come and give tribute to those who

passed on. This is going to be a special service with speakers, music, and

displays of the condolences and support we have received.

Several of the events during Ag Week were cancelled due to the accident and

planning has begun to reschedule and host some of those events this spring.

At that time, we will continue with events such as: the College of Agriculture

honors banquet, the 5k walk/run, the keynote speaker, and “Day-on-the-Quad”

with activities and food. In the meantime, plans are in the works for a

“Cowboy Theater Gathering” concert before Christmas break, and we will

continue the college’s tradition of turkey shoots, service projects, and

educational seminars throughout the rest of the year.

Everything that happens within the College of Agriculture is meant to

benefit students, staff and faculty in a variety of ways. We encourage

students campus-wide to participate with us for a foot-stompin’, hand-clappin’

good time. Suggestions and comments are always welcome to help make

everyone’s Aggie experience one that will be helpful to the education process

and will not be forgotten.
