Consistancy?

Editor,

This letter is in response to Matthew Boeckmann and Erik Lindstrom’s letter to the editor on Wednesday about “Condom Bingo” in Bullen Hall. We are current and past RA’s with a combined 7 years in housing, and we have both hosted this program. Mr. Boeckmann and Mr. Lindstrom have some valid concerns that we would like to clarify. First, “the overnight guest policy,” is not in place for moral purposes. Rather, to keep people who are not residents of USU Housing from staying in the Halls without being residents, as well as for the comfort of roommates. Second, the condoms for “Condom Bingo” were donated by the USU Wellness Center. In fact, much of the information presented at this program comes directly from the Wellness Center. Lastly, programs of this nature are designed to help educate residents about critical issues. This particular program was to educated residents on safe sex, healthy relationships, and STD’s. We understand that this program isn’t for every resident. But we feel that it does have value and adds to general knowledge of our community. We apologize if this has caused any discomfort, and if Mr. Boeckmann or Mr. Lindstrom did not have the opportunity to attend this program, we are more than happy to offer them the materials presented.

Sincerely,

Bryce A. Baxter Richard D. Workman
