Construction to alter routes through campus

Construction on the College of Agriculture building is progressing, but the project will temporarily impact traffic on Champ Drive and its access from 400 North (U.S. Highway 89).

Beginning Monday, June 27, Champ Drive will be closed to construct a new road, vehicle drop area for short-term passenger pickup or dropoff and landscaping adjustments associated with the College of Agriculture project.  Detours include temporary traffic lanes between the TSC and LDS Institute.

Work at the site will realign the existing roadway. New sewer lines for the planned business building will be installed at the same time.

Starting June 27, vehicle access to the southwest area of campus, including the parking lot immediately south of Old Main (Purple lot), will be via the emergency access pathway located on 800 East, running between the Taggart Student Center and the LDS Institute.

The temporary access point is via 800 East at 700 North.

Several days before the Champ Drive closure, an electronic sign will be placed at the 400 North entrance to Champ Drive, alerting vehicles to the closure. Additional signage at 700 North and 800 East will direct vehicles to the temporary detour path which starts at the TSC/Institute.

Foot traffic in the area is high, and a five-mile-per-hour speed limit will be enforced.

Additionally, the temporary detour lane will restrict pedestrian access with barriers and fences along the path, while allowing pedestrians to cross the lane at various locations. Pedestrian traffic will be directed by detour signs in strategic locations.

The Champ Drive closure continues through Aug. 20.

The project is managed by John Fitch, USU Facilities Design and Construction.
