Contributors recognized by library awards
The Merrill Library recognized various groups and individuals who have contributed to the library in the past year at their annual awards ceremony Friday.
Among those awarded were Moving Services, Facilities, Lucia Rhodes of the Development Office, the student body represented by this year’s and next year’s Student Body Presidents Ben Riley and Steve Palmer, Norman Jones of the History Department and Brent Miller, vice president for Research for his work in raising money for the library.
Ann Goebel, new Library Chair and business reference desk librarian, hosted the awards.
Ben Riley and Steve Palmer accepted the award for the student body.
“We hope that the message will go out that this award is to the students of Utah State University,” said Robert Murdock, deputy director of the library, who presented the award.
Riley was also recognized for his work in raising funds for the library through the legislature. This year, the library was granted $188,000 in ongoing money and $30,000 in additional one-time finds.
Also recognized for his contributions to the library was Norman Jones of the History department. Jones is responsible for adding more than 1,500 volumes to the library and is working to obtain even more volumes. While working with Special Collections and Acquisitions, Jones has been integral in acquiring collections from England and from families in Utah like the Nibley family.
