Copy Editor

bawb@cut.net

I am writing to ask if anyone else noticed the copy editors mistake in the Jan 28th issue. I don’t know if the same mistake appeared in the hard copy as on the website, but I found it quite amuzing. The copy editor actually left his or her notes in text at the end of opinions written by Ginger Bailey and Gabe Carter. It just shows how serious this copy editor takes his or her position. First to let a slip up like this occur, and second what is actually mentioned in the notes shows that the editor takes his or her position very serious. On Ginger Bailey’s opinion the editor says “So get to the point that people shouldn’t smoke so close to (the) building, and that legal action can and should be taken….” On Gabe Carter’s opinion the editor says “what the heck did this last paragraph just say” referring to the third paragraph in Gabe’s opinion. I would like to let the editor know that if he or she is going to make fun of or be sarcastic about someone elses opinion that is fine with me, but try not to let your sarcasm appear in print next to the original opinion letter. By the way, the Statesman website is awsome! For the most part you do a great job!Bawb NielsenFormer USU Student
