Cougars snap three Aggie win streaks

The Brigham Young Cougars were streak killers as they defeated USU 75-62 on Dec.16, 2006.

The loss ended USU’s eight-game winning streak, their four-game winning streak against BYU and their streak of making a three-point basket in 127 games.

How did it happen?

“Sometimes you play like crap,” Head Coach Stew Morrill said in the post-game radio interview. “We played like crap. BYU was a big reason why we played like crap …We’re playing a better team, on their court, and that’s how you get your fanny kicked. And we got our fanny kicked.”

The game was tied three times early, but after an Austin Ainge basket gave BYU the lead, they never looked back. The Aggies cut the lead to eight with about a minute left in the first half and ended the half down 38-28.

In the second half, USU was never able to get the lead below double digits.

The Aggies’ offense never got on track. Morrill attributed this to breakdowns and playing outside the offense. USU only had two assists in the first half and seven in the game.

“We took bad shots, and that’s how you shoot 36 percent and zero from three,” he said.

Jaycee Caroll led the Aggies with 16 points on 4-of-15 shooting. Michael Earl had a career-high performance with 10 points.
