Cross-country teams compete in Minnesota

The Utah State University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the 27th Annual Roy Griak Invitational at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn., on Saturday. The teams each finished 11th overall in their divisions.

“We didn’t quite do as good as a team as we had hoped,” said USU Head Coach Gregg Gensel. “We’re still making our goal of continuing to improve and progress each week.”

USU’s top finishers for the men’s competition was Kyle McKenna, who completed the eight-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 8.4 seconds, good for 14th place. The top female finisher for USU was Alex Litzsinger. She finished her six-kilometer race in 21st place with a time of 21:56.9.

Coach Gensel was pleased with the results of his top finishers.

“They did a great job,” said Coach Gensel. “I’m really happy for them. They each had a good race.”

The men finished with 243 points, 23 points behind in-state rival Utah Valley University and the women finished with 310.

Utah State will next compete in the NCAA pre-national meet on Oct. 13. in Louisville, Ky.
