Curtis may see time on field soon for St. Louis

Former Utah State football star Kevin Curtis may be on the Saint Louis Rams’ roster, but he has yet to see action in a regular season game this year.

He broke his fibula during the Rams’ 28-24 preseason loss at Buffalo.

“Obviously, I was down about [getting injured],” Curtis said in quotes posted on the Rams’ Web site. “You really can’t do anything about it. As far as the game, those things happen. You can’t think too much about it, but unfortunately it happened at a bad time. I’m just looking forward to going back out there.”

Head Coach Mike Martz said Curtis would be out four to six weeks, which would have meant he might be ready to go for Monday’s contest against the Atlanta Falcons.

But according to game statistics, Curtis was still listed as an inactive player.

Prior to the game, Curtis said he wasn’t sure if he would play or not.

“I haven’t been out there for a long time,” he said. “If I’m able to start feeling pretty good and get back in there, who knows?”

Curtis said that as much as he wants to get back out on the field, he also wants to make sure he is 100 percent healthy.

He also recognized the choice on when to play and when not to is not necessarily up to him.

“I just have to be ready and if my name is called, then hopefully I will be ready to go,” he said.

With just over two months remaining in the season, Curtis doesn’t have a lot of time to prove himself.

The Rams are already more than impressed, though.

According to his biography on the team’s Web site, he displays great athletic ability and has quickness and body control that will make him a consistent deep threat.

The team is also impressed by his “never quit” attitude on the field, in practice and in the weight room.

“I want to be out on the field bad,” Curtis said. “It is definitely important to me. I feel as if I am not at my best, I can’t contribute as much, so I definitely want to be healed up.”

Another Ram who is looking for playing time is former BYU tight end Spencer Nead.

After being signed to the active roster on Aug. 25 and then released Sept. 15, Nead was signed to the practice squad Sept. 17 and then released again Sept. 30.

He was signed to the practice squad on Oct. 2. He played in the first week of the season against the New York Giants and then the fourth week of the season against the Arizona Cardinals.

Nead saw time on offense and special teams.

The Rams host the Green Bay Packers Sunday at 11 a.m. on FOX.
