Day gives glimpse of Aggie life

High school seniors from around the state and across the nation, converged on campus Friday for Preview Day – a chance to tour campus, talk to advisers and get a glimpse of what life as an Aggie could be like.

With students coming from as far away as Pennsylvania, officials said Preview Day was a chance for prospective students to get a firsthand look at Utah State University.

“Most of the time, they can read about the school and the majors, but this gives them a chance to come and explore,” Marilyn B. Kruse, an academic adviser from the department of family, consumer and human development, said. “Students can come to the booths and interact with real people.”

Following tours of campus, prospective students had questions about university life answered by a student panel of college ambassadors.

“The tour was cool,” Danielle Davis, a senior at Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, said. “We got to see the whole campus. The [Merrill-Cazier] Library is amazing.”

Students were also given the opportunity to attend information sessions on subjects ranging from financial aid to housing options.

This year, organizers added the Major Fair to the Preview Day agenda. Traditionally, the events have been held on separate days, but organizers said they hoped combining the two would help prospective students get the most out of their visit to USU.

Every academic department was represented at the Major Fair. Academic and peer advisers were on hand to answer questions.

“[Prospective students] want to know about the department, what classes they’ll have to take, what their AP credit will count for,” HASS peer adviser Seth Jeppesen said. “I’m a senior and I feel like I can share a student’s perspective instead of just letting them hear things from advisers.”

“I was able to get a way good feel of the campus,” Emily Meier, a senior from Skyline High School, said.
