Demolition Continues on the USU Innovation Campus

Several buildings on the Utah State University Innovation Campus have been demolished in recent weeks to make way for future development. The buildings, remnants of the Agricultural Experiment Station, formerly located on the Innovation Campus, have in recent years become structurally unsound.

With the help of Edge Excavation, a Logan, Utah company, concrete crushing has begun. This concrete will be recycled for road base, gravel and other projects.

The USU Innovation Campus is the university’s devoted research park with state-of-the-art facilities including the USTAR BioInnovations Center and the Space Dynamics Laboratory. Designed to stimulate and support the growth of research and technology-based enterprises, the Innovation Campus has more than 150 acres of ready-to-develop land.

“Through clean-up efforts, like those currently underway with Edge Excavation, we are making space for new development in the future,” said Robert Behunin, vice president for commercialization and regional development.

Innovation Campus managers have taken precautions with respect to the demolition. Specialists have been brought in to remove hazardous materials such as asbestos and chemicals to ensure that water systems are not contaminated. Starting in July, noise levels may be elevated due to crushing.
