Desmond Penigar named top Aggie

Julie Ann Grosshans

Utah Statesman: How was the multi-cultural student dating auction?

Desmond Penigar: It was fun. It just lets me know who likes me on campus — just joking. It was a cool thing to raise money for the multi-cultural program.

US: How do you feel about your play on the road right now?

DP: It’s good. I thought it was always good, I just didn’t knock down some shots. Everyone thought I was playing bad on the road, but for the most part it’s good. It will continue to get better, and against Idaho, my confidence went up a lot.

US: How have you changed physically over the last year?

DP: I’ve gotten strong. When I first got up here [to USU] I was benching 285 [pounds], now I’m benching 340. I lost a lot of weight, too. I was 270 when I got up here, and now I’m at 245. I trimmed down and I got stronger.

US: What do you think of the snow?

DP: It’s too cold. That’s why I love going back to California, just to get out of the snow. The unfortunate thing is we have to come back here. It’s pretty. My mom and sister came down a couple of weeks ago and they loved it.

US: Do you watch reality shows at all?

DP: Yes. I’ve been watching “Joe Millionaire.” My man, he’s got the females. One day I wish I had them like he does. [I also watch] “Elimidate.” It’s pretty funny.

US: What do you think of the whole LeBron James

situation?

DP: I think it’s messed up because the guy is in high school. If we were all in high school, in the situation he was in, most of us would have taken those jerseys. He’s in high school, and he’s making immature choices because he’s not grown up yet. He’s not educated about the real life yet. They can’t punish him about that. He’s just a teenager.

US: What did you think about the Columbia

explosion?

DP: I think it was tragic. It just goes to show that we need to get together as a nation because anything can happen. We need to help everyone and stop looking at everyone because of their color.

US: What is your worst habit?

DP: Hitting the snooze button.

US: What is your favorite ride at Disneyland?

DP: I’ve never been there. I’m afraid of heights. Every time my friends go, I’m like ‘I’m cool,’ because I know they will try to get me to go on the roller coasters with them. I’m afraid of heights. I don’t like going on roller coasters. I just try to stay away from things that might end my life.

US: What is your favorite color?

DP: Aggie Blue because it’s our colors, and we’re representing.
