Despite injury, Daniels leads Aggies in scoring
Big Surprise. Senior forward Shawn Daniels led the Aggies again.
In Saturday’s game Daniels paced the team with 10 points and six rebounds. He has now scored in double figures in 16 games this year and 42 times in his career, including seven of his last eight games.
Despite a hamstring injury he suffered working out Tuesday, Daniels played 30 minutes against California State University at Fullerton.
“Shawn’s a tough guy,” said teammate Dimitri Jorssen. “He’s got to be hurting real good before he says so.”
Daniels said he wasn’t bothered too badly by the injury, but it was “a little irritating at times.”
He said he was mainly concerned with making every game count because this is his last year of eligibility and he only has two home games left.
Before the game, in which he was 85.7 from the field, Daniels was sixth in the country and number one in the Big West Conference with a 61.3 percent shooting average. He is also third all-time at USU with 97 career blocks and leads the Big West, averaging 1.73 blocks a game and has posted two double-doubles this season.
Daniels has also been tabbed by six different pre-season publications as a first-team, all-league player as well as Player of the Year.
“We were able to get him the ball, and he made great moves,” Morrill said.
