DURYEA NAMED TO USU BASKETBALL COACHING STAF

Utah State head men’s basketball coach Stew Morrill announced today the hiring of Tim Duryea to the Aggie staff as the third assistant coach.

Duryea (pronounced DURR-e-a) has spent the last two seasons as head coach at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College compiling a 40-25 record and back-to-back trips to the Region Six Championships.

“We are excited about adding a coach to our staff that brings excellent experience as well as high character,” stated Morrill. “Tim has been a head coach at a high profile junior college as well as a Division I assistant so he brings a lot to the table. He will aid in all aspects of our program and I am confident he will be a great fit for the Aggies.”

Prior to taking over the Hutchinson program, Duryea was an assistant coach at Hutchinson Community College from 1997-99, an assistant at North Texas from 1993-97, and an assistant at Colorado State from 1988-90.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity for me to get back to the Division I level and to a program that suits me,” commented Duryea. “Coach Morrill and his staff have a great thing going and it is a great situation for me in terms of the area and style of play.”

Duryea, who graduated from the University of North Texas in 1988 was a co-captain for the only team in UNT history to advance to the NCAA Tournament. He began his collegiate playing career at Pan American University under Lon Kruger who is now the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks.

Duryea was born in Medicine Lodge, Kan. on Nov. 16, 1964 and graduated from Denton High School in Denton, Texas in 1983. He and his wife Angie have five year old twins, Tanner (daughter) and Taylor (son).
