Eliza West named Mountain West Freshman of the Year
Utah State freshman guard Eliza West has been named the Mountain West Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Year, the conference announced Monday.
The product of Mount Martha, Victoria, Australia has averaged eight points per game on the season, along with 3.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
In conference play, West has upped her game, and her averages. At 8.8 points per game, she is second on the Aggies behind only sophomore Rachel Brewster. West also has accounted for nearly half of all the Aggies assists in conference play, averaging 5.4 per game against Mountain West opponents.
Along with West, two other Aggies received conference honors. Brewster was given honorable mention on the All-Mountain West team while fellow freshman Shannon Dufficy was named to the All-Freshman team alongside West.
Brewster has powered the Aggies on offense, averaging 13.7 points per game, the only Aggie to average double digits in points. Her 4.3 rebounds per game also rank third on the team.
Dufficy has been the low-post presence for Utah State this year. The freshman has averaged a team-leading 8.8 rebounds per game, twice as many as anyone else on the Aggies. At 8.1 points per game, she has also been an offensive weapon down low for the Aggies.
All three will be on the court tonight as the Aggies venture into the Mountain West Conference tournament against Air Force at 8 pm at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
