Ellis’ all-around earns her athlete of the week
Utah Statesman: How does it feel to be selected as the USU athlete of the week?
Tina Ellis: It’s exciting. It was really funny to find out that I had won. I didn’t realize that I had been chosen, so it’s exciting.
US: What are your goals for this season?
TE: I want to make it through the year doing all-around and improve every time.
US: What is your favorite event and why?
TE: The beam would have to be my favorite. I like it. It’s a challenge, yet it still comes pretty easy to me and I enjoy doing it.
US: Which school do you consider your toughest opponent?
TE: Probably Utah or BYU. They are both very good teams, however we are very close to being as good as they are. But they still have that slight edge – but we are getting there.
US: What is the biggest difference between Rocky Mountain Gymnastics (club) and Utah State gymnastics?
TE: Club is a lot different than college. College is a lot more relaxed and laid back. It’s almost more fun. There is more of a team quality and team bonding that goes on instead of more of an individual event.
US: What is the hardest thing about gymnastics?
TE: The hardest thing would be coming back from injuries and keeping up endurance to make it through the season. They are kind of long and can sometimes get tiring.
US: If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
TE: I think I’d like to meet Tom Hanks. He’s one of my favorite actors. He can play anything and is a very humble person.
US: What is in your CD player right now?
TE: Collective Soul. I also have the Tarzan soundtrack, Dixie Chicks, Will Smith and Matchbox 20.
US: Where would you go on your dream vacation?
TE: I would go back to Fiji. I went there for a vacation and it was beautiful. I would definitely go back to Fiji.
US: What is the best thing about living in Logan?
TE: It’s small. There are actual things that you wouldn’t think would be in a small town. It’s very comfortable.
