Fall break roadtrip map

Schoolwork and class getting you down? Fall break is approaching quickly and you might be wondering what you can do with your three-day weekend or any long weekend, for that matter.

Utah and its surrounding areas are full of beautiful places just waiting to be explored. Below are six excellent spots for a short getaway.

Bear Lake in Garden City, Utah

First on this list is the beautiful town of Garden City. Stop for their famous in-house raspberry shakes or go for a walk along the long stretch of beach. Embrace the history of the town by visiting the Butch Cassidy Museum or explore parts of the Oregon Trail. Just make sure to bundle up because it’s going to be chilly.

Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah

Gawk at colossal sandy cliffs of pink and orange as you hike through thousand-year-old canyons. Zion offers all kinds of hikes for beginners and experts alike. If you’re brave enough to face the chill, there are even camping grounds scattered throughout the park. Embrace your wild side and become one with nature.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake is a large city with lots to do. Explore the vintage shops and record stores. Find a small hole-in-the-wall coffee shop or go to a concert. With more than six different venues, you’re bound to find a show you’ll enjoy. Temple Square offers scenic walks and lots of history to learn about the Latter-day Saints, while City Creek Mall offers a wide variety of stores to shop at and plenty of restaurants to fill up your stomach.

Park City, Utah

Despite being a popular ski town, there are lots of other things to do in Park City. You can go horseback riding, hiking, fly-fishing or venture on a ghost tour. There is also an Alpine slide that shoots you down three thousand feet of track. Downtown offers shops and restaurants to enjoy as well as being the famous location for the Sundance Festival.

Lake Powell, Utah

It might be October, but the weather is still nice in Southern Utah. Lake Powell straddles the border between Utah and Arizona and offers more than just scenery. Gather a bunch of friends and go for a swim or find a hike to grab photos that would make your family jealous. Lake Powell also offers camping if you’re looking to get away from a technological world.

Boat Box Hot Springs in Boise, Idaho

In the mountains of Idaho, you’ll find Boat Box Hot Springs, a place near the Salmon River where the water is always warm, regardless of the weather. Boat Box also offers small lodges for rental with amenities and events for your entertainment. It is recommended that you get to the hot springs either early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid crowds.
