Fee board may need more student members, ASUSU says

Quick and painless.

In a short meeting, the Associated Students of Utah State University discussed a resolution to appoint two more students at large to the University Student Fee Board.

Those students will represent the student voice. Currently the board consists of 10 student officers and three students at large.

The council will vote on the resolution next week. Matt Ekins, ASUSU student advocate, introduced the resolution in the hope to better represent how the students feel about the changes in student fees every year.

The students on the board do not receive any compensation for being members.

“They do it out of the kindness of their hearts and their interest in USU’s success,” Ekins said.

Most students pay student body fees and students at large should have a strong voice on the USFB, according to the resolution.

In other business, Ericka Ensign, ASUSU Academic vice president, introduced 15 revisions to ASUSU’s general laws. The council will review the revisions throughout the week and discuss them at the next meeting.

Each revision is a small part of a larger project to organize ASUSU’s constitution, general laws and bylaws since 1968. Ensign hopes to have all the revisions approved by the end of the year so they can go into effect for the new council.

“The sooner the better,” she said.

Celestial Bybee, ASUSU president, informed the council about a campus clean-up on April 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. The council will help clean up the campus before graduation.

Bybee also informed the council of Stater’s Council, which will be April 10 at 7:30 a.m. in the Taggart Student Center.

A student-relations table will be up on the first floor of the TSC on Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon for students to fill out questionnaires about their concerns. They will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle for various prizes.
