Fine Dining in the Valley

Something different this way comes.

The new steak and seafood restaurant, Hamiltons, is now open and ready to give the residents of Cache Valley a unique, fine-dining experience.

Justin Hamilton, 25, the owner of Hamltons and a former Utah State University student, said Logan has a great need for places to eat that have atmosphere. Hamilton is also the owner of Cafè Sabor, a Mexican restaurant in Logan.

He said he hopes Hamiltons will be a place people go to for an entertaining evening.

“Dining in Cache Valley is really entertainment and that’s what we have to help people understand,” Hamilton said. “There are not a ton of [dining] options and we are a little limited on entertainment options.”

The outside of the building has a look unique to Cache Valley and the two-story, stone-front structure towers above the neighboring buildings.

Pat Sage, a sophomore majoring in informational technology, said that he didn’t even know it was a restaurant.

“It looks like a hotel with two stories,” Sage said. “And, it is in kind of a weird place. It looks kind of out of place, like it doesn’t really belong.”

Hamilton said he worries that the outside of the building gives people the perception that the food is really expensive, but he said there is something to appeal to everyone’s budget.

“One of the things I tried to do with the menu is to make it a well diversified menu,” he said. “Whether you want to come in and just have a sandwich, a burger, a dinner salad, a pasta or something, it’s very affordable. However, I tried to make it accessible so that if you want that full dining experience and you want to have the greatest steak you’ve ever had in your life, you can do that as well.”

Dinner prices run from a grilled chicken salad and prime rib sandwich for $8.99 and a top sirloin steak for $12.99 to, for those with high class appetites, a 24-ounce porter house steak for $32.95.

Lunch prices are slightly lower with four types of colby beef burgers running $7.99 to $8.99 and pastas for $9.99. A bowl of soup costs $4.99.

The restaurant also serves seafood, which is brought in fresh daily.

“We have the capability that if a fish that was swimming yesterday in Hawaii could be flown in and be here tomorrow. And, I think that blows a lot of people away. ‘You’re in Cache Valley and you have fresh seafood?’ But, we do,” Hamilton said.

Contributing to the whole dining experience is the building itself. At the entrance there is a large waiting room with benches and a large fireplace.

In the main dining room are vaulted ceilings, another fireplace and a view of the kitchen from every table. There are king and queen tables that can be reserved for special occasions and a banquet room for even larger groups.

Local artists’ works hang on the walls throughout the restaurant.

Hamiltons is also trying something different for those who don’t like sitting in the waiting area.

It has installed an automated cell phone system where patrons can leave their cell phone numbers on a waiting list and 10 minutes before their table is ready, they will get an automated voice that will say, “You have 10 minutes before your table is ready.”

Mason Smith, manager, suggests to call at least 20 minutes before going to the restaurant to reserve a seat or to leave a cell phone number.

Or while waiting, Smith said to check out the Sports Bar.

Hamiltons boasts a full service sports bar with two flat screen TV’s, which will show Monday Night Football, as well as all the televised Aggie sporting events.

The ceiling in the sports bar is 38 feet tall and there is plenty of windows and light.

The tables only seat four, so it may not be ideal for large gatherings of people, but it does allow for a few friends to get together to watch the game or just listen to music.

“For college kids, I think [the sports bar] is one of the more, ‘Wow, take me out of Cache Valley for the night’ areas to come and visit,” Hamilton said.

Amanda Garcia, a junior majoring in Political Science, said that she thinks Logan really needed something different and upscale. She said that a nice restaurant would give Logan more of a big city feel.

“I haven’t been there yet, but I’m excited to go. We have enough Beto’s, Pita Pits and other fast food places. We really need a nice, sit-down, classy restaurant to go to once in a while,” Garcia said.

“Hamiltons really is unique. We try to do the very best to give you the best quality in every aspect of the whole dining experience. So you can really walk away after spending a few hours with us and say, ‘Wow, that was one of the greatest evenings I’ve spent in Cache Valley,'” Hamilton said.

Hamiltons is now open for lunch and dinner and is located at 2427 N. Main Street in North Logan.
