Fire breaks out near Old Main Hill

TAYLOR UNDERWOOD, staff writer

The USU Police Department and Logan city Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a fire shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday near Old Main Hill on the north side of the Living Learning Center.

Student workers were laying down tar for new paths when a small fire broke out.

“The tar just got a little hot,” a worker at the scene said.

The firemen contained the small brush fire in a matter of minutes.

Officer Kent Harris of the USU Police Department reported seeing two victims being transported to the hospital, one with noticeable burns on his arm.

Police are still looking into the matter to see exactly how the fire started. Other student workers and the police refused to comment on the matter until it has been further investigated.
