Fire Substation

carried@cc.usu.edu

I live in the USU Mobile Home Park, directly across the street from the proposed substation. No one will be more impacted than MY family so it’s high time you heard from me. Will it be an intrusion and inconvenient? You bet! But I want to say this – It is time for the selfish whining to stop! It cannot be built fast enough! Those opposed to the substation say it will put MY children at risk. My children are MORE at risk from the drivers, both USU students and neighborhood residents alike, who use that section of 1100 North as their own personal speedway! I believe the sight of a fire station and official vehicles will encourage some of them to SLOW DOWN. The opposition wants to talk about the children, so let’s talk about the children. There’s the little girl leaving the Hillcrest school grounds who was struck by a driver that didn’t even realize he had hit her. She was thrown under his car, trapped between the axle and the asphalt, and dragged down the street until he finally stopped at the Lundstrom building because “crazy people were chasing his car”. Fortunately she survived, but how much better would it have been if the ambulance had been right there? Then there’s the little girl who was hit in her church parking lot, who not only had to wait for the ambulance on that day, but again a few weeks later, the night she DIED! There are the babies – the 9-month-old boy who DIED before the ambulance could get to him. And the 4-month-old baby boy – cherished by the Mobile Home Park community because his parents had tried for so long to have a baby. He DIED before the ambulance could get to him. These are the children of my friends and neighbors, the children the opposition claims they are trying to protect. This is about saving lives, and people are whining over a little inconvenience. PLEASE. Build the substation in MY backyard, BECAUSE of the children. No one else should have to die, waiting.
