First Fall Festival to celebrate culture for the Asian Student Association
Dancing, sushi, music, games and fun can all be found this Friday at the Asian Student Association’s first ever Autumn Festival.
“Every Asian country has their own variation of this festival, but the main purpose of our festival is to commemorate the new moon for the harvest, good-bringing and good fortune to the family,” said David Chamorro, vice president of the ASA.
“At these events there are normally lanterns, decorations, and street food at these festivals and we want to bring that sort of culture to USU and mix it in with the culture here,” he said.
This event will be open to all students and will even be allowing other Global Engagement clubs to have their own booths in which they will be providing games from their own cultures.
“We want to include all of USU,” Chamorro said. “Our goal for this festival is for USU to create their own kind of autumn festival.”
In addition to the games at the festival, there will also be two live poetry readings from Utah State University, as well as dancers and singers from USU all performing at the event.
“We really want to promote the Asian community at USU,” Chamorro said. “But this festival isn’t just for Asian students. We are inviting USU students, staff and anyone else who wants to come in the Logan community.”
Food, including dishes from a local sushi chef, and merchandise will also be provided at the festival, all which will be under $5. For those interested, the event will be held on Sept. 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the Taggart Student Center patio.
