Food for lovers
Celebrating Valentine’s Day on the town with student budget can be hard, but with the diversity of food in Cache Valley, sweethearts don’t need to worry about breaking the bank.
To ease the worry of finding a place that has great ambiance, food and prices, this dining guide has been created. The pain of finding a place to eat has now been eased but don’t forget to make reservations in advance.
Callaway’s – 54 N. Main St., Smithfield, 563-9179
One of the secret gems of Smithfield, Callaway’s offers unique Italian-style dining. Pasta and pizza are their most popular for dinner and college students need not fret about the price. Couples can split a pizza, salad and still leave room for their bread sticks that give The Olive Garden a run for their money.
Nightly specials are also offered. Desserts offered are tiramisu, cheesecake with carmel or raspberry sauce and lava cake that comes with hot fudge and ice cream. Reservations are a must and make sure to call ahead. Callaway’s does not open till 4:30 p.m.; reservations can be made then.
Iron Gate Grill – 517 W. 100 North #103 Providence, 752-5260
Known for their burgers and orange-coconut salmon, Iron Gate Grill is cooking up great specials for Valentine’s Day – crab and lobster each paired with steak. Desserts on the menu are triple chocolate cake, creme brulee and red hot white pot of chocolate. Reservations are a good idea.
Cafe Sabor – 600 Center St., 752-8088
An urban Latin bistro, Cafe Sabor is happy to cater to college students any time of the year, especially on Valentine’s Day. Serving up their sweetheart special for two, Cafe Sabor is offering a three-course meal for $25. Their special this year includes their ever-poplar spinach artichoke dip, four different entrees to choose from and blueberry-pomegranate sorbet.
If dessert is the only thing you are looking for, try their chocolate molten cake, fried ice cream or cheesecake Xango – a cheesecake chimichunga. Cafe Sabor will have Martinelli’s and their usual bar menu.
Hamilton’s Steak and Seafood – 2427 N. Main St., 787-8450
A classic upscale steak house, Hamilton’s is known for their premiere steaks and seafood as well as their decedent breads. Starting their Valentine’s Day early, Hamilton’s is offering a four-course meal for $60 per person, which includes selections of their seafood and steak menu.
For those who want the ambiance but not dinner, check out their dessert menu which includes creme brulee, cheesecake and chocolate cake. Vegetarian options are available and reservations are a must.
Le Nonne –129 N. 100 East, 752-9577
With a chef from the Tuscan Coast of Italy and family recipes that have been passed down for generations, Le Nonne is the real McCoy of Italian food in Logan. Its cozy setting in a historic Logan house is perfect for Valentine’s Day or any day of the week.
Well known for their gnocchi, Le Nonne also offers desserts of equal quality such as creme brulee and profiteroles – chocolate-dipped creme puffs. Open from 11:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, Le Nonne is already booked for dinner reservations on Saturday but is still open for lunch and Friday evening.
Papa Murphy’s – 618 N. Main St., 755-0808
If money is the issue this Valentine’s Day but a way to share your feelings is needed over dinner, fear not. Papa Murphy’s offers heart shaped pizzas for $7 with just pepperoni, and $1 per extra topping. Saying “I love you” has never been as easy as a take-and-bake pizza.
