Forget sleep, try USU’s nightlife instead

USU students find the nightlife in Logan an exciting and adventurous way to have fun and let loose. Although many expressed their wishes for more nighttime activities to be held on campus, they still feel that if students are looking for a fun night, USU is the place to be.

“I think getting pulled over by university police could be considered somewhat of an adventure,” said freshman Natalie Miller. “But getting pulled over for suspected drunk driving at three in the morning when everyone in the car is naked is an entirely different type of an adventure.”

Miller said the story is not as bad as it sounds. She said the night began with the paint dance on the HPER field. Miller said she and her friends were covered in paint and went in a large group to get cleaned up at an apartment. She said all of her friends were wrapped only in towels in a car when they were pulled over because of suspected drunk driving.

Although this was somewhat of a messy night, Miller said it was a night filled with good times and great memories.

“USU definitely knows how to show students a good time with the activities they plan,” she said. “The paint dance was probably the best night I’ve had so far this year at school.”

Kelvin Judd, junior in entrepreneurship, had a different take on USU-sponsored activities on campus. He said the nightlife is only fun in Logan when you are having your own private parties or get togethers.

“USU provides mostly conservative activities that LDS students would like,” Judd said. “They don’t have very many crazy or really fun parties like that.”

Judd said the Howl on campus can be a crazy event at USU. The Howl is not representative of what USU usually does, Judd said. He said that’s why so many people who don’t go to USU come up to Logan only for the Howl.

Judd said he can always count on having a exciting night in Logan whenever he wants. He said he just cannot always count on that fun night to be provided by USU.

Bryan Stringham, sophomore in mechanical engineering, said he wishes USU would provide more nighttime activities for students. He said when they do sponsor events on campus they are always a good time, but they don’t hold these events often enough. Stringham said to make up for some of his absent nights he usually gets together with friends to participate in some type of recreational activity at the HPER.

“I don’t think students realize how many different activities they can get involved with athletically,” Stringham said. “Not only does this keep you in shape, but it is also a good way to meet new people and have some fun.”

Some of the recreational activities available for students are tennis, swimming, basketball and racquetball. Chelsea Babbitt, sophomore, agreed with Stringham about getting involved in athletic activities.

“I usually play volleyball at least twice a week,” Babbitt said. “Athletic activities and also USU dances and parties are great ways to spend your nights here in Logan.”

Babbitt said she considers herself to be an involved student on campus. She said when students get involved with all different types of activities associated with USU, it isn’t hard to find ways to make a fun night.
