FOUR AGGIES FINISH AMONG TOP 25 IN NCAA TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Each of Utah State’s four athletes that competed in the NCAA Track and Field Championships placed among the top 25 in the nation. Late Thursday, Joel Johnson completed the two-day decathlon by placing 17th and Kelli Burton finished 24th in the shot put.

Johnson, who was competing in his third straight NCAA Championships, scored 7,059 points in the 10-event decathlon. After posting his two highest scores earlier in the day with 845 points in the 110-meter hurdles and 790 points in the pole vault, he struggled scoring only 492 points in the 1,500-meter run late Thursday night.

Burton finished 24th in the women’s shot put with a mark of 48-02.75. That distance was third among freshmen at the championships.

On Wednesday, Neil Warr had finished 15th in the javelin throw for the top finish among the Aggies, while Ryan Bruhn was 24th in the hammer throw.
