Fry Street Quartet comes to USU
The Fry Street Quartet takes the stage for the Wednesday, July 30, Midsummer Night’s Magic benefit concert series at Utah State University. The concert takes place at the Performance Hall on the USU campus (approximately 1090 E. 675 North, Logan). Concert time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go toward scholarships for music students.
The evening’s concert program include works by Beethoven, his String Quartets Op. 18, no. 6 in b-flat Major and Op. 59 no. 2 in E Minor.
The Fry Street Quartet is the professional string quartet in residence at USU and is based in the Department of Music. Its members include William Fedkenheuer, first violin; Rebecca McFaul, violin; Russell Fallstad, viola; and Anne Francis, cello.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the new summer series at Utah State,” said Fedkenheur. “With all the wonderful opera and theater events that take place here in Logan during the summer it’s nice to see chamber music find a place amongst Logan’s rich cultural offerings. Our program this summer gives us an opportunity to preview our October Beethoven Cycle.”
During a two-week period in October, the quartet will present all of Beethoven’s String Quartets.
“All of Beethoven’s 16 quartets are masterpieces that together form a body of work that takes one through the heart of Beethoven’s genius,” Fedkenheur said. “It continues to be a great opportunity and privilege for us to dedicate so much of our time learning this music.”
The final Midsummer Night’s Magic concert features the Mike and Corey Christiansen guitar duo Aug. 6.
The Fry Street Quartet Beethoven Cycle takes place in USU’s Performance Hall Oct. 2-4 and 9-11. The quartet will be joined by Robert Winter who will present a series of lectures.
