Fry Street Quartet Introduces New Member to USU
The Fry Street Quartet, the professional string quartet in residence at Utah State University, will introduce its newest member, Robert Waters, in concert Thursday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall on the USU campus in Logan.
“We are looking forward to introducing Robert to our Cache Valley community,” said Rebecca McFaul, assistant professor in the Caine College of the Arts and violinist in the Fry Street Quartet.
Waters is replacing William Fedkenheuer as first violinist.
Waters brings an extensive repertoire to the resident string quartet. Waters is a founding member of the Jupiter Trio, a resident ensemble located at the DePaul University School of Music in Chicago, Ill., and the Chicago-based Callisto Ensemble. In 2002, the Jupiter Trio was awarded first prize in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan. Jupiter Trio was chosen out of 54 ensembles and was the first American ensemble in the history of the competition to win the gold medal.
The Fry Street Quartet will perform selections from Dmitri Shostakovich, Felix Mendelssohn and Franz Josef Haydn. The pieces by Mendelssohn and Shostakovich are quartets that the Fry Street performed in March on a three-week tour throughout the Midwest.
Tickets for the Fry Street Quartet performance are $10 general admission, $8 seniors and youth, $5 USU faculty and staff and free for USU students with ID.
