Fuentes named top Aggie

Julie Ann Grosshans

Utah Statesman: What were you thinking when you threw the Hail Mary pass?

Jose Fuentes: I was just thinking, “I hope someone comes down with it so we can go into overtime and get the win.”

US: Is it the right decision for Utah State to join the Sun Belt Conference?

JF: I think it is. Being an independent was kind of tough the last two years for our school. Being able to play toward a bowl game is awesome. I think it’s the best move for our football team right now and whoever else is going [into the SBC]. It will really help out our football program.

US: What is your outlook for the remainder of the season?

JF: Hopefully, positive. We’ve got this game coming up [against Louisiana Monore], and we can’t think too far ahead. We want to get the ‘W’ this coming week. We’re working really hard to achieve that.

US: How much pressure is it to be a quarterback?

JF: It’s a lot of pressure. People either love you or hate you. It’s tough, but it’s fun at the same time. I have a lot of fun playing the position.

US: What kind of music do you have in your CD player right now?

JF: I’ve got some Tu Pac, of course, and Usher.

US: If you were stuck on a deserted island, who would you want to be there with?

JF: My fiance Nancy [Lopez] of course.

US: What were you like as a child?

JF: Growing up, I was kind of quiet when I was young. Going into elementary, fifth grade and up, I was real talkative. The teachers couldn’t shut me up. I’d get in trouble for being the loudmouth in class. [I was] goofing around all of the time and having fun.

US: How much do you think about football in an average week?

JF: I think about it all of the time. When I’m watching TV at home, when I’m about to go to sleep, I think about a play or a check. It seems like I’m always thinking about it – when I’m taking a shower or something. Like 80 percent of the time I’m thinking about football.

US: What do you do on road trips?

JF: We just have fun. We play card games, listen to music. Some people have PlayStation2, so we get to play that. We just have fun and goof around. Not all of the time, but some of the time.

US: What is something interesting about yourself that would surprise others?

JF: I like to watch movies all the time. I’m a big movie guy.
