Gymnastics ends regular season with loss at UCLA
Utah State gymnastics concluded their regular season this past Saturday at a meet against No. 2 UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif. The Aggies took second place with a 194.850 at the non-conference meet, while the Bruins won their senior night with 197.575. The win served as a parting gift from their senior class to UCLA’s head coach, Valorie Kondos Field, who is set to retire at the end of the season.
Senior Madison Ward-Sessions won the all-around by scoring a 39.275, and tied for fifth with her 9.925 score on the floor. Sophomore teammate Leighton Varnadore was able to tie for second in the all-around with a 39.050 score.
During the meet, Ward-Sessions picked up her 37th career title, which also serves as her 15th title as a senior.
USU kicked off the meet on the bars, where Ward-Sessions and junior MaKayla Bullitt both earned 9.825 scores to tie them for fifth and give the team a 48.525 score.
On the vault, Ward-Sessions and Varnadore tied for third with a pair of 9.825 scores.
The Aggies best event of the night was the floor portion, where sophomore Autumn DeHarde pulled a 9.875 score to place seventh, while Varnadore earned a 9.825 to finish in the ninth spot.
On the beam, freshman Grace Rojas was pulled from the lineup last minute due to an injury, so only five Aggie gymnasts performed in the event. The highlight of the beam portion was DeHarde scoring a 9.825 to tie for fifth place.
On Friday, March 22, USU will travel to the Marriott Center in Provo to compete in the MRGC Championships alongside BYU, Southern Utah, and Boise State at 6 p.m.
