Gymnastics seeks win in final season match
After a disappointing home loss to Minnesota last Saturday, the Aggie gymnastics team is looking to redeem themselves by walking away with another win against Boise State.
Boise State, ranked 47th in the nation, has the opportunity to host No. 32 USU, a team that beat them 193.725-191.650 in Logan last February.
The Boise State Broncos had a rough start this season, falling 1-7 in their first six meets. Following their loss to the Aggies, they were able to pull together to beat Southern Utah University and place first in a quad meet at Texas. But they couldn’t keep it together to beat SUU again last Friday, losing with a score of 192.750-195.175.
As for the Aggies, they started off strong last week but could not hold on to pull off a win against No. 25 Minnesota.
The Aggies came out looking good on the vault and bars, placing their second best team scores in the first two rotations.
Less can be said about their beam and floor performances.
With Minnesota scoring a season-high 49.200 on the floor, the Aggies scored only 47.250, which was their lowest beam score in the last six meets.
After putting another high score on the boards with a 49.000 beam performance, Minnesota walked away from the Aggies’ last home game with a win of 195.800-193.800.
USU currently leads the conference on vault (48.885) and floor (48.765), with third on the bars (48.565), and they dropped to sixth place on the beam (48.075).
Both the Aggies and the Broncos will conclude their regular seasons this Friday before moving on to the WAC Championship. This meet will also mark the final home meet of Bronco’s Head Coach Sam Sandmire’s 20-year coaching career.
