Harris named top Aggie

Julie Ann Grosshans

Utah Statesman: How does it feel to be the fourth-straight soccer player to be named the Utah State Athlete of the Week?

Charlsie Harris: It’s awesome. It’s from my teammates. I wouldn’t be it if we weren’t doing so well.

US: Why do you think this team is so hot right now?

CH: Everyone is playing with heart and everyone is playing well. I know before every game everyone is getting into it any way they can. Everyone has their different ways, but we are all coming out and playing hard.

US: Whom do you get along with best on the team?

CH: I get along with everyone pretty much equally well. There isn’t one person you get along with better. The team is pretty close.

US: What is your favorite part about the game of soccer?

CH: My favorite part is probably the team. You meet so many people and you make so many good friends out of it. It’s worth everything. Being out on the field and playing well is just awesome.

US: The A was blue on Sunday following your overtime victory against Idaho, how did that feel?

CH: It’s awesome because we are getting recognition. I thought it was cool. I figured it was [for us] because I didn’t know of any other teams playing on Sunday.

US: Why did you decide to come to Utah State?

CH: I really liked the school, the atmosphere. When I met the team, everyone seemed to get along really well. It just felt right.

US: Did you watch the World Cup?

CH: I did. I was rooting for U.S., but in the final I was rooting for Sweden. They ended up losing to Germany, though. It was kind of a bummer, but next World Cup it’s U.S.A. all the way.

US: Who is your soccer idol?

CH: I’ve always looked up to Mia Hamm because she is in the same position as me. Someone else that I’ve always thought worked so hard in every game is Christine Lilly. I think she is an awesome player. She doesn’t get the recognition for all that she does. She is one of their hardest working players in my opinion.

US: Do you play any other sports?

CH: I like watching football, basketball and lots of sports. I don’t play any other sports, but I like watching them.

US: Where did you get your name?

CH: My dad went on his [Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints] mission to Tennessee and he got really sick and a lady named Charlsie took care of him and he said he was going to name his first daughter Charlsie.
