Utah State’s club hockey team used a strong third period to overcome a two-goal deficit against Weber State Friday night at the George S. Eccles Ice Center in North Logan.

Senior forward Matt Hamilton scored the game-winning goal with less than two minutes to play in the third period to give Utah State a 6-4 victory over the Wildcats. Forward Cooper Limb added an empty-net insurance goal with 36 seconds left.

The Aggies found themselves down 1-0 at the end of a very sloppy first period.Weber State scored early in the second to extend its lead to 2-0.

Forward Stu Hepburn finally put the Aggies on the scoreboard with a slick wrist shot that beat the Wildcat’s goalie. However, WSU added one more goal to bring its lead back to two goals six minutes later.

Freshman defender Mike Trimboli answered by scoring a goal of his own only 15 seconds later.

In the third period, defender Ty Johns deked past three Wildcats on his way to score and tie the game. Defenseman Aaron Ward then gave the Aggies their first lead of the night with a sneaky wrist shot from the point that Weber’s goalie couldn’t see thanks to a Hamilton screen.

Weber tied the game again, but Hamilton scored his game winner and sealed the victory for Utah State.
