Hockey returns to winning ways after break

Utah State hockey returned to action Friday at the George S. Eccles Ice Center in North Logan against the Cal State Long Beach 49ers. The Aggies won by a final score of 8-1.

The 49ers jumped out to a lead 10 minutes into the game but gave up the lead 90 seconds later when defenseman Shaun Gibbons scored for USU. The Aggies would score eight unanswered goals.

Gibbons scored two goals on the night. Joining him on the score sheet were forwards Brian Gibbons and Cooper Limb – who had two of his own – Dee Fontaine and Dagen Walton. Defenseman Sean Erwin also got in on the scoring.

Aggie goalie Bryce Scherschel made 24 saves in net.

It was the first game for the Aggies in a month because the team didn’t play during Christmas break.
