Hocky suffers 9-0 loss to WSU Friday, rebounds Saturday for 3-2 victory
After a tough 9-0 loss to the Weber State University Wildcats on Friday night, the Utah State University men’s club hockey tea
members redeemed
themselves by defeating Weber 3-2 on Saturday night.
Both games were played at the Ice Sheet in Ogden. USU played as the home team on Friday and WSU as the home team on Saturday.
Friday’s game started with Weber scoring two unanswered points in the first period. Then Weber had a few opportunities to use the power play to put more goals on the board. Weber only took nine shots, but put four in the net.
After the first period, Utah State had 29 shots at that point as opposed to Weber’s 22. In the last period Weber knocked the puck in three more times.
Adam Lain and Jake Groseth shared in goalie duties.
“We came out flat, the puck was just not bouncing our way. We weren’t clicking, and nothing seemed to work,” team captain Paul Amidon said.
Saturday night a different Aggie team came out ready to play.
The Wildcats snatched up an early lead.
Deryk Anderson was able to fix that, however, with two unanswered goals. Nate Peirce added another goal in the third which the Wildcats answered making the final score 3-2.
Adam Lain played the entire game as goalie.
The victory give the Aggies a 5-1 record on the season.
“We showed up ready to play and prove just what kind of team USU hockey really is,” Amidon said.
USU forward Clint Stosich said, “We were playing aggressive. We were the first ones to the puck and our passing was sharp. We played a complete game. On Friday we didn’t play our game, on Saturday we did.”
