Honors director named
Christie L. Fox, former program coordinator for the honors program, was named the new director for the program.
Fox will be replacing David Lancy, who has served as the honors program director for the past eight years.
“She is remarkably well networked among our faculty colleagues, and she did this in a very short time,” Lancy said. “I’m constantly amazed at the number of people she knows on campus, which speaks well for recruiting faculty to teach in honors.”
Fox has a doctorate in folklore from Indiana University and has worked as an admissions counselor at Layola University in New Orleans. These experiences, she said, have helped in qualifying her for the new position.
“Through teaching, advising and my own experience, I have developed a philosophy of honors education.” Fox said. “Honors should simultaneously push students to higher achievement and also provide a safety net.”
The USU honors program is an elite program, Fox said, “but not elitist.”
Lancy will return to the anthropology department this fall.
