Horse Parade a Northern Utah Tradition
The All Horse Parade, sponsored by the American West Heritage Center, is one of northern Utah’s most anticipated events. This year the annual event will take place July 19 at 9 am in downtown Wellsville as part of the Spirit of ’47 Pioneer Jubilee. No mechanized entries are allowed-only horses, mules, ponies and other animals, and the wagons and other implements that they pull. Onlookers can expect to see buggies, surreys, wagons and other old fashioned implements from city and farm.
Anyone wishing to join the All Horse Parade should contact parade co-organizer Craig Maughan at (435) 245-4794. All participants should register or check in at the Arena on 200 S. 400 W. in Wellsville.
“It’s a parade like no other,” indicated David Sidwell, Program Director at the American West Heritage Center, “Marching down the streets of Wellsville, we’re delighted to offer this popular attraction again. It’s a chance for many folks in our area to show off their unusual and fun wagons, surreys, buggies and other horse-drawn vehicles.” The All Horse Parade had long been associated with the Festival of the American West, but with the shifting of the Festival in favor of a higher quality every day experience, the parade will take place this year as part of the Heritage Center’s Pioneer Day celebrations.
The Parade will begin at 200 South and 400 W in Wellsville, then continue to Main Street and head north and around the Tabernacle block, continuing south past the elementary school and back to the starting point.
“This parade gives us a chance to explore, in one further way, our heritage,” explained David Sidwell. “It fits perfectly with what we’re trying to do at the Heritage Center, even though it’s in downtown Wellsville.” The event is free to the public.
