Humans of USU: Kayla Meine
Kayla Meine is a freshman who grew up on a cattle ranch with her family in Dillon, Mont. She is now living in Logan, majoring in animal science.
US: Being from out of state, what made you decide to come to USU?
KM: I wanted to go out of state, and when I came and visited Utah State, I just loved it. The campus is the perfect size and the people are all really nice, and of course I love the ag program.
US: What’s your favorite thing to do here in Logan?
KM: Probably definitely country dancing.
US: What New Year’s resolutions do you have?
KM: Well, most of it applies to this semester. I want to get really good grades this semester. For the whole year, I want to focus on living in the moment rather than always thinking about the future.
US: What are you most excited for in 2014?
KM: So many things. There isn’t one certain thing I’m excited for. I’m just excited to see what’s in store for me and see what I can accomplish in a year.
US: What’s something quirky about you?
KM: The first thing I notice about a person is their teeth and eyebrows.
US: What are you most afraid of?
KM: Snakes … I’m beyond scared of them.
US: What’s your most embarrassing moment?
KM: It was my freshman year in high school and my very first varsity basketball game, and I tripped down the stairs and fell on my face in front of the whole boy’s varsity team.
US: Celebrity crush?
KM: Channing Tatum, of course.
< strong>US: What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
KM: It would probably have to be last semester when I was really struggling with school and being away from home, and my best friend from home told me that college is just a piece of the puzzle in our lives. It is such a small space of time that we just have to buckle down and make a priority.
US: How do you usually spend your days?
KM: I usually go to class, work out and take nice naps.
US: What would your perfect day be like?
KM: My perfect day is a summer day spent in the mountains fishing and checking cows, then ending the day with a big fire and roasting s’mores and hot dogs.
US: What did you love most about growing up on a ranch?
KM: I love the animals and everything about them, and it made me learn how to work hard.
US: Favorite childhood memory?
KM: Any time fishing and hunting with my dad and grandpa, or driving the feed truck when I was little in the winter.
US: Favorite place in the world?
KM: Well I’ve never been there, but I’ve always wanted to go to Australia.
US: If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
KM: Pink for sure.
