International Guest Offers Insights into Children’s Eating Habits
An international expert on the eating habits of children is featured in a free presentation Friday, June 3. The lecture is open to everyone.
Professor C. Fergus Lowe of Bangor University, Wales, presents “Changing Children’s Eating Habits” at 10:30 a.m., 650 USTAR building, Utah State University Innovation Campus.
Lowe is the co-creator of the “Food Dudes” program — an empirically supported healthy eating program used in more than 1,000 primary schools in Europe. The program is currently rolling out in all primary schools in Ireland as well.
Food Dudes is recognized by the World Health Organization and is a 2010 recipient of the Royal College of Physicians’ Gold Medal Award.
Lowe visits Logan and the USU campus as a consultant on a USDA-funded project exploring the potential of the Food Dudes program to address the obesity crisis faced by the United States. He will discuss the principles behind Food Dudes (role modeling, repeated tasting and rewards) and the data he has collected in a wide variety of school settings in Europe.
The presentation is sponsored by USU’s Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences Department and the Department of Psychology.
